A Word from Our Owner: Why I Created Counseling and Nature Therapy Center in Frisco, Texas
When I founded Counseling & Nature Therapy Center, it wasn’t simply a professional decision - it was deeply personal.
I grew up in North Texas, and as a teenager and young adult, I witnessed firsthand the emotional and social impact of the heroin epidemic in Plano in the early 2000s. I lost friends during that time, and most heartbreakingly, I lost my beloved older brother to bipolar disorder and addiction. He was only 22 years old.
That loss reshaped my life.
Grief, trauma, confusion, and unanswered questions pushed me into a season of deep soul-searching. I wanted to understand why we lost him - what failed, what could have helped, and what might save others. At the same time, I was navigating my own struggles with mental health and trauma during adolescence and young adulthood.
Those experiences shaped the trajectory of my life and my calling.
Through learning effective coping strategies, strengthening self-care, understanding family dynamics, and engaging in my own therapy - including EMDR to process past trauma - I was able to heal in meaningful and lasting ways.
That healing didn’t erase the pain.
But it transformed it into purpose.
Turning Tragedy into Meaning: The Heart of Our Counseling in Frisco, Texas
It is now my passion to turn tragedy into meaning-making.
To me, that looks like:
- Helping others heal
- Supporting families in crisis
- Preventing suffering when possible
- Advocating for compassionate, trauma-informed care
- Creating positive change in my community
- And honoring the humanity in every person we serve
What a gift it is to see and be seen by another human being. I am continually humbled that I get to witness people’s vulnerability, courage, and resilience for a living.
I value each and every person our agency serves - not as a diagnosis, but as a whole, complex, worthy human being.
16 Years of Experience Across Trauma, Addiction, Schools & Community Mental Health
Over the last 16 years as a therapist, I have served clients across many levels of care, including:
- Inpatient drug rehabilitation
- Community mental health, including work in homes and schools
- School counseling
- Private practice
- University teaching, where I have served as a professor in Clinical Mental Health Counseling since 2017
These roles shaped my understanding of how trauma, addiction, grief, poverty, attachment wounds, and systemic stress intersect across the lifespan.
They also taught me that true healing requires more than symptom management - it requires safety, compassion, nervous system regulation, relational repair, and hope.
Why I Built a Trauma-Focused Therapy Practice
So many people come to counseling believing they are “broken,” “too much,” or “failing.”
In reality, many of the struggles people carry - anxiety, emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, shame, dissociation, relationship conflict, burnout - are trauma responses, not character flaws.
Our trauma-informed philosophy centers on this belief:
We don’t ask, “What’s wrong with you?”
We ask, “What happened to you - and how can we help your nervous system feel safe again?”
Our trauma therapy approach recognizes that trauma lives in the mind, body, emotions, and nervous system, which is why we integrate:
- EMDR
- PTSD therapy
- Somatic and body-based approaches
- Attachment-focused counseling
- Polyvagal-informed care
- Mindfulness and nervous system regulation tools
We aim to help clients move from survival mode into agency, safety, connection, and self-trust.
EMDR & PTSD Therapy in Frisco, Texas: Healing What Feels “Stuck”
Because EMDR played a role in my own healing, it holds a special place in our practice.
EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps the brain process distressing experiences that feel frozen in time. It can reduce triggers, emotional intensity, shame, fear, and intrusive memories.
We provide EMDR and PTSD therapy for individuals impacted by:
- Childhood trauma and attachment wounds
- Sexual abuse or assault
- Birth trauma and medical trauma
- Domestic violence
- Military trauma
- Religious trauma
- Sudden loss and grief
- Complex PTSD
- Anxiety, panic, and hypervigilance
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting - it means being free from the emotional grip of the past.
Why Grief Work Matters to Me
Part of why I created Counseling & Nature Therapy Center was because I experienced grief first hand, and felt so alone. I wanted to create a space where there is no timeline on grief, no awkward pauses, no taboos that you feel like you can’t express. Grief impacts the nervous system, relationships, identity, and the way people move through the world. It is not always obvious from the outside, but many people are carrying profound emotional pain beneath the surface.
At our practice, grief therapy in Frisco, TX is approached through a compassionate, trauma-informed lens that honors both the emotional and physical impact of loss. Whether someone is grieving a loved one, a traumatic experience, infertility, miscarriage, divorce, estrangement, or a major life transition, I wanted Counseling & Nature Therapy Center to be a place where people feel safe enough to soften instead of feeling pressured to “move on” before they are ready.

For Individuals with ADHD: A Space That Understands You
For many individuals with ADHD, finding the right therapeutic space can feel discouraging. You may have been misunderstood, labeled as “too much” or “not trying hard enough,” or given strategies that didn’t actually fit how your brain works.
ADHD is not a lack of effort - it’s a difference in how the brain processes attention, emotion, and motivation. And without the right support, it can impact self-esteem, relationships, and daily functioning.
This is part of why spaces like Counseling & Nature Therapy Center matter.
Therapy That Works With Your Brain, Not Against It
At our practice, we offer ADHD therapy in Frisco, Texas that is both practical and compassionate.
This means:
- Supporting executive functioning in realistic, sustainable ways
- Understanding emotional intensity and overwhelm
- Creating structure without rigidity
- Honoring neurodiversity rather than trying to “fix” it
Through trauma-informed therapy in Frisco, Texas, we also recognize that many individuals with ADHD carry layers of shame or negative self-beliefs from years of feeling misunderstood.
Why This Matters
This practice was created to be a space where people feel seen, supported, and understood - not judged. For individuals with ADHD, that can be transformative. Because healing doesn’t come from forcing yourself to fit into systems that don’t work - it comes from finding support that aligns with who you are.
Anxiety Therapy in Frisco, TX and the Fear of Not Being Enough
Many people seek therapy not because they are “broken,” but because they have spent years carrying anxiety, emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, people pleasing, burnout, or the constant feeling that they have to hold everything together alone. Anxiety often develops when the nervous system has been under chronic stress for too long. Over time, people may begin believing their worth depends on productivity, achievement, caretaking, or avoiding mistakes.
For many individuals, anxiety is deeply connected to trauma, attachment wounds, emotional invalidation, or life experiences that taught them they had to stay hyper-alert in order to remain emotionally safe. Anxiety may show up as:
- Racing thoughts
- Difficulty relaxing
- Chronic overthinking
- Panic or hypervigilance
- Perfectionism
- Emotional exhaustion
- Trouble sleeping
- Fear of failure or rejection
- Feeling emotionally disconnected or overwhelmed
At times, people become so accustomed to functioning in survival mode that they no longer recognize how exhausted their nervous systems truly are.
In anxiety therapy in Frisco, TX at Counseling & Nature Therapy Center, therapy focuses on helping individuals move beyond self-criticism and toward greater nervous system regulation, self-understanding, and emotional safety. Therapy may include:
- Nervous system regulation tools
- Somatic therapy approaches
- EMDR therapy
- Mindfulness and grounding practices
- Emotional regulation support
- Boundary-setting skills
- Reducing shame and perfectionism
- Rebuilding connection with self and others
Part of why Counseling & Nature Therapy Center was created was to offer a space where people could feel genuinely seen, supported, and understood rather than judged for struggling. Healing anxiety is often not about becoming perfect or never feeling stress again. Sometimes healing begins when people realize they no longer have to carry everything alone in order to deserve care, compassion, and connection.
Depression Therapy and Feeling Worthy of Support
Many people struggling with depression carry an internal belief that they should simply “push through,” handle things on their own, or wait until life feels less overwhelming before seeking support. Over time, depression can create deep feelings of hopelessness, emotional exhaustion, numbness, shame, disconnection, or the belief that healing is somehow out of reach. For many individuals, these struggles are not signs of weakness - they are often connected to chronic stress, trauma, grief, burnout, or years of carrying emotional pain without enough support or safety.
At Counseling & Nature Therapy Center, we believe therapy should be a place where people feel emotionally safe enough to be fully human. Depression often convinces people they are alone in what they are feeling, but many individuals silently struggle with overwhelming self-criticism, emotional shutdown, irritability, anxiety, difficulty functioning, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others. Healing often begins when people feel seen, supported, and understood without judgment.
Our therapists provide therapy for depression in Frisco, TX that is compassionate, trauma-informed, and grounded in nervous system regulation and whole-person healing. We recognize that depression impacts not only thoughts and emotions, but also the body, relationships, energy levels, and sense of identity. Therapy can help individuals better understand the roots of their emotional pain while developing healthier ways to cope, reconnect, and heal.
We integrate approaches such as somatic therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, attachment-focused care, and nervous system regulation tools to support healing holistically. Rather than focusing on simply “thinking positively,” we help clients build self-compassion, emotional awareness, resilience, and practical tools for navigating difficult seasons of life with greater support and steadiness.
Seeking therapy does not mean something is wrong with you. Sometimes it means your nervous system, mind, and body have been carrying too much for too long without enough care. Depression therapy can provide a space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and begin moving toward healing with compassion rather than shame.
